This movie delt with the war on evolution. With a community called Dover, evolution tore this town apart because of a painting a boy did of apes evolving into humans. Intelligent design is a bold new theory known to out throw evolution. Intelligent design or an intelligent designer. Thought to be religion in discise.
It all began when a new teacher at Dover High School wanted creationism to be taught in the high schools. He did not believe in evolution.
To this day, teaching creationsim is outlawed and agaisnt the students rights.
Natural selection is when best organisms are selected to survive. Which leads to new species. Species can change over time. This also may work for humans.
God created man. As much as half the United States believe this.
Some believed that both theories can be taught side by side. There is also an intelligen agent.
There was a huge trial of whether or not to order a new biology text book. Finally, the decision was made that the text book would not be used. Then randomly there was 60 textbooks donated by an anonomous person. Then it was decided that the Pandas text book was going to be used a a reference. Many teachers resigned in protest.
There then was a debate with parents and the school district that ended up in court.
There was also a disagreement that teachers were suppose to read a little one minute statement referencing intelligent design. Science teachers refused to read it.
A theory has been tested and tested over and over. Which means that Darwin’s theory practically has now flaws. A genetics paper had confirmed Darwin’s theory of apes and humans.
There was a strong debate on evolution versus creationism. Ultimately it depends on the school and if they want to teach intelligent design or just stick with evolution.

so i am not going to write a whole story on this but this was a very good trial. It is so hard to convince people who is right and wrong when they have their own ideas and your mind is made up.It is a never ending battle the fight between evolution and creationism. There is no way to show creationism has a science…..NO WAY….people dont seem to understand that….. and instead of being christians they go out and make death threats and cheat their way into school teachings…can you say contradictive….atleast you can test evolution.like any other person i would like to believe and have faith that god created everything but how do we really know and why is it so wrong to question…it is such a hard topic for people..you have to be able to question things or how would we ever discover anything….

This show was crazy! when i was in high school i heard about this debate going on in court, about to teach or not to teach Darwins theory. I had no idea that it was that in depth. after watching this show i realized how important that Darmins theory is to the human life. Being in Kansas, which is really religously orientated, Darwins theory would put eveything about religion on the back burner and that is what the probablem was here. Some people thought that it was a good thing to teach it and that yes it is a theory, but theories hold more to them just a simple fact does. They have evidence that proves Darwins theory. i just can not believe that it went so far as to court, i mean if you take a look at the eveidence, then really you dont have a case against it. But some people still dont believe in the theory and that it shouldnt be taught. I think it should be, it is very interesting and it really makes you think more about you life and the reason and meanings that everyone has in this world. it is just mind blowing and i think eveyone should know about it. eveyone has the right to know, and then they can do with the knowledge what ever they like, if they want to forget it then let them, but i really think that it is a good theory and it should be taught.

Phillip Johnson has brings up very convincing arguments as to which is more likely; Intelligent Design or Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. The interesting part about his position is that he is obviously leaning towards the fact that God created the universe and everything that it encompasses. But he states it in a way that only shows some fallacies in the evolution theory.

I find it especially interesting when Johnson was asked about how one would go about testing for the existence of a designer. He says that while the common answer is “of course not”, the way to test this is to test the accuracy of the Darwinian theory. The basis of this theory is that unintelligible processes created what we know as the world today. While this theory is widely accepted throughout the scientific world, the very basis of this theory is unsupported.

Now while there is no way of telling whether the Intelligent Design idea holds any water or not, it does bring up very valid arguments to the theory of evolution. This will be an argument for the ages.

After reading the information on the web site, there is a lot of debate on this issue. I really odn’t know how i feel about the decisions that were made for this topic. I belive and this is just my opiion of the subject is that we were created by a higher spirt. I fully agree with the parents that it should be the choice of the kids and their parents on how they are taugh about how we were created. This could turn into a debat on here and i don’t fell like that shoudl happen. So i am going to end my comments with this, it was a good article to read and no matter who you are, you are going to react to the material in your own way.

This show was about a topic not entirely new to Kansans, but it was still interesting to hear both sides of the stories told in equal light. NOVA seemed to put on a fairly credible program, and also touched on the definition of science and whether intelligent design was actually science.
I think it’s odd, that only 48 percent of Americans think intelligent design and evolution should both be taught. Some people have blinders on and feel they have to be pro-evolution or pro-intelligent design, however there are those who believe in both at the same time. The creator, God, designed us, but who’s to say we haven’t evolved? Actually, science can look at our bodies as nature’s experiments. We no longer need wisdom teeth or an appendix.
Furthermore, science has proved that something cannot just be created without a source, therefore proving that something had to have created it. The complexity of humans proves that whatever created humans was intelligent.
On a side note, I don’t think it should take a trial and massive media coverage to decide to teach one or the other in a schools. The school board should have just decided to teach them both and made both sides happy.

The debate between evolution and creationism has been going on for a long time and has had many arguments over it and probably will continue to do so for a long time. The website and the information on it were all interesting. When people believe in something very strongly, it is hard to make them see the other side of the issue. In my opinion, I believe creationism is correct. I am not sure how the problem should be solved, though. I guess either the parents could say what they want their kids to be taught or schools should just teach neither one.

I personally feel that this entire arguement is ridiculous. There is no reason that this should have gotten this far. I personally believe that God created the Heavens and the Earth but I don’t believe that everyone should be forced to believe it. I think that both ideas should be taught and people can make up their own minds on what they want to believe. I think if people would just wake up and realize that this is America they would realize that everyone can believe what they want to because as Americans we all have freedom of speech.

Dover Pennsylvania; should evolution be taught in our schools? Thats what this program was about, it featured the trial that took place over this issue which was Kitzmiller vs Dover School District.
Its been a long continuing issue for awhile now and everybody has their own opinion. The whole controversy basically depicts the same battle that we’ve been dealing with their just saying God is ‘Intelligent Design” they wanted the teachers to say this and alternative to Darwin’s theory.
I personally don’t see a problem with it, if they could teach Darwin s Evolution why does everybody have to believe it? Can’t they give the alternative option and let the person themselves decide. the problem with this case was it came down to the separation of church and state. Although they didn’t say god they said intelligent design, which could mean a wide variety of things. All in all they eventually ruled in against the school for teaching it. I think that we should be able to decide for ourselves on hot issues such as this. Separation of church and state should not apply in this one instance.

I find that the issue of religion in schools has gotten way out of hand. Dover is a perfect example of this. When they offered a new way of thought for students in biology I feel that they took it way off context, the school to me was just trying to show students that there are other ways for things happening. Many do believe that god created earth and everything that came with it, and I feel that this should be taught in a way that doesn’t conflict with religion in school. I believe that students should know that there are other theories in the development of humankind other than the one’s of Darwin. I don’t think that the residents of Dover should have taken the actions that they did, but I guess it is a free world and you are allowed to believe in whatever you want to. If parents don’t want their children to learn about alternitive ways then I guess that is their choice and I feel that in the end their children will suffer in the means of less knowledge of the world around them. I do not feel that this was a instance where there should be seperation of religion and school, because it wasn’t really preaching a religion.

i agree to that this is a very very very good topic to debate. There are so many people out there that think that they have the right answer to this. Some people think its evolution, and the others believe it to be creationism, and as the video showed it goes back and forth, each person having their own facts or their own ideas that try to prove that they are correct. Personally i believe in creationism, however i do believe that kids and even adults should have some kind of education or knowledge over evolution as well. That way people have knowledge of both sides of the conflict. then their is only one thing left for them to do…CHOOSE FOR THEMSELVES! God gave us our free will so we can make a choice, now all that is left is for us to choose which side of the conflict that you believe.

The war over wether evolution should be taught in school has been debated for several of years. Everyone has their own opinion about religion and evolution. That is what this program dealt with. I feel that this is an important topic that should be debated and discussed. I believe that some form of evolution should be taught but not preached, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don’t think that the town in this program should have been torn apart over their war on evolution.

Evolution vs. Creationism will always be a hot topic debate. Who can really completely explain how we got here since nobody was around? You can’t. And so, as one man pointed out, this debate is similar to a bar fight beginning because the other guy made a joke about his mother. It is a touchy subject to talk about where you came from.

While Evolution has scientific evidence to support Darwin’s ideas, Creationism has little more than a book that many people debate how to interpret it, and if it is a historical document or not.

This was a very big topic in Kansas not that long ago, but how can you start teaching theories based on supernatural ideas? A science class seems to be meant to teach theories and facts that are supported by SCIENCE. Church is for Creationism and Evolution if for the classroom. Just because we are taught in school about Evolution doesn’t mean that everyone believes in it and doesn’t believe in Creationism. And what about the possibility that it was a combination? When science can back up Creationism, it can be put in a science book, but until then, it is meant to be taught in a church.

I have heard alot of stories about arguments over this subject, if evolution or creationism should be taught at schools. However I have never heard of arguments of this kind go as far as it did in the program. I think the basics of both subjects should be taught at school, because both things are interesting. but i think that each person has to choose for them self which they chose to study further and believe in. I believe in Creationism but i think it should be tough at church for the most part, because people have the freedom to chose their own religion and it would be wrong to force kids into something they don’t believe in.

Intelligent design is something I strongly believe in. It fills the holes of the evolution theroy and helps explain certain aspects of how we were created. However, only teaching one these therories is wrong. Both of them should be taught because both them are accepted as scientific theroies of creation. I disagree with both verdicts, first the one of only teacing intelligent design by the school and second being the fact that the courts would only allow Darwin’s theroy be taught. Students need to know both issues and decide for themselves which theroy they believe in. If students only knew one side of the story then they are being setup for failure. When I was in elementary, creationism wasn’t taught and I always believed I came from a caveman. But as I grew older, I began to believe that creationism was the way our earth was formed. I had many doubts about evolution. What came first, the chicken or the egg? I personally believe God put the chickent there! Call me crazy, but thats just me.
